An introduction to primary care

If you’re thinking of applying for a role in primary care in south east London, this course will provide you with information, practical examples and activities to help you understand how primary care works and how different roles support local communities.

You’ll explore the structure of primary care, learn about multidisciplinary and integrated neighbourhood teams, and build confidence in preparing for applications and interviews.

This course will take around 1 hour to complete.

By the end of this resource you should be able to:

  • Describe the role of primary care within the NHS and how it supports individuals and communities in south east London.
  • Explain how multidisciplinary teams, social prescribing and integrated neighbourhood teams work together to deliver coordinated, person-centred care.
  • Identify a range of clinical and non-clinical roles within primary care and the skills required for each.
  • Recognise the importance of population health management, partnership working and community-based support in reducing health inequalities.
  • Apply key skills and frameworks, such as the STAR approach, to prepare for applications and interviews for primary care roles.
